This is the tree where we tie a “Yellow Ribbon” around to welcome home a friend.
Because it’s been 6 long years. Underneath this tree is where we got to start right where we left off.
It’s where we will throw a small dinner party.
Or throw a birthday party. Her tree trunk is large & grand. We’ll never know the age of this tree or the history & life it has already seen. All we know is this life now & what is happening underneath her long branches. The shade she provides to protect us from the sun & the grass she keeps cool goes unnoticed in our busy lives.
This tree provides a place of rest or a foundation to begin a story. She has witnessed the very beginning of our family, the laughter, & the first steps of our 3 little ones.
Her trunk holds banners or streamers to help celebrate any occasion. Because underneath her vast shade is the perfect party place.
Or the perfect place to play. Our yard is not fancy, it is uneven, & has way too many weeds. Skipping past all that stuff that will never be “perfect” is the place where my children are growing up. Discovering new things, running through the grass, growing & changing from season to season is all taking place underneath this oak tree. I had never owned a tree before this oak tree. (Yes, there are many other trees around our yard.) But this tree is front & center. Ready & always waiting for laughter or to be the center of a chase. Or the counting post for hide-n-seek.
Our Oak tree is one of my most favorite features of our home & neighborhood. It is a fixture in our lives. A spot of earth that we own, where these little ones will grow up in the shade of her branches, where they may learn to read, or learn how to ride on 2 wheels. There is no limit to the life that will take place underneath this tree, in our house, or in our neighborhood. I just know I am blessed to be a small part of it all.

For the past 2 weeks I have taken these pictures that I featured for the neighborhood series. I promised myself I would not let Spring slip through my fingers. It has been one of the best things I have done in a long time. Time goes by so fast. Documenting this beauty all around our neighborhood with my 3 in tow has been so rewarding & thrilling for me. Thank you for following me along this week. Your comments about the kids & the neighborhood have been so fun to read. You all can say some of the sweetest things & I appreciate each & everyone of you. So thanks again for your kind words!
