2 + 2 = 4
As with every year that passes I can’t help but reflect on how much all 3 kids have grown. It’s simply mind boggling to me at how fast it goes. Even though it was the twin’s birthday we were celebrating, their big brother has a *starring* role in their lives. It’s because of big brother that the twins now have a fascination with bugs & butterflies, which led to our theme for the party ~ “Cute as a bug.”
Surprisingly everything fell right into place for their party. All of the paper for the homemade party hats, banners & labels were found on sale. Along with coordinating fabric for the curtain backdrop & trim for the various other projects were also found on sale. My goal for the food was to have it all in small sizes for our birthday boy & girl, and of course for their guests. I was also hoping for cool & refreshing treats, but our 96* heat index at 11:00 am quickly heated & melted our treats right away.
But, I soon realized I didn’t need to worry because the marshmallow pops were melting at a much faster rate by various little mouths!
Some kids were able to ignore the heat & just eat sweets. Others decided that the pink lemonade was much more refreshing with a few blowing bubbles added into the mix.
While some of our wee little guests were able to sleep right through it all.
We also had some bugs & butterflies photo moments. I decided to mimic what we did last year, but turned it into a ladybug & butterfly.
To me the funnest part about a party is looking at the kids’ reactions or watching them take it all in. Our yard is played in quite often, but to see it filled with dear friends & party favors was a treat for even myself. Half way through the party I was counting my blessings. A yard full of friends, food, health, & laughter was all an amazing feeling to see & hear.
Watching these 2 blow their own candles out, marking their 2nd year of life was also an amazing thing to see. Knowing that I as their Mommy, will be able to experience along with them a whole new world of discoveries as they enter this new year.
At the end of the party we gave each guest a “Cute as a Bug” collecting jar, thanking them for coming & celebrating their birthday with us.
I can only imagine what might be in store for me & all my mommy friends when it comes to filling these jars in the coming days.
Oh my.
*The collaboration of a few friends helped me plan this party.
Susan Lucci, Clara Lee, Leah, Shannon & Kerry, I am so thankful for all your help & suggestions.
My dear friend Susan Lucci & her mom, Clara Lee did the banners using their Silhouette machine & Martha Stewart’s loop edge punch. Susan also took the first photo in this post along with a few others.*

I LOVE the photo cut-out board! I am thinking of doing a Sesame Street or Dr Seuss theme for my twin boys 3rd birthday. Any suggestions for these themes? I would love for the the children to be able to stick their heads thru and have an incredibley cute pic.
