My dear friend Cha Cha over at Sit Relax and Read has a brand new link party starting. You guess it, Sentimental Sundays. She & I both are suckers when it comes to decorating or being sentimental about various things. That’s one of the many reasons why I will be joining this party very often.
It just so happened that I was already being sentimental in my thoughts this week while working on some orders for Bag Full of Posies. Thinking of all the memories that were made from this table & sewing machine ~
This cedar table has been in my husband’s family for generations. It’s an small old cedar farm style table. Perfect height to place a sewing machine on. While I sat here this past week, I couldn’t help but wonder how many things have already been made on this table, cut, sewn, or prepped to cook.
Most of you have already seen my Mom’s old sewing machine that she handed down to me. This honestly, is one of my proudest possessions in my home. I was clothed growing up with this sewing machine. I have such vivid thoughts of the sound, the scissors being placed on it in a hurry from cutting a thread, the coolness from the metal, & that fabulous color is in memories as far back as I can remember.
Truth be told ~ I don’t know how to sew. I would never pay attention when my mom tried to teach me. I just know the very basics with the help of these stickers she placed on this machine many years ago when handing this down. Yes, I know how to thread this machine, but I would never think of taking these stickers off. It’s part of her (my Mom) sitting here with me.
The other great pieces on this table, are also from my husband’s side of the family. These Mason blue ball canisters. I love how they help me store all my basic sewing supplies.
Behind this table I have a inspirational board that I made from a curbside score. This isn’t really a sentimental piece to me, but the combination of old, sentimental, & new ideas all in the same spot, is where I have my most creative thoughts.
Do you decorate with sentimental pieces or have a sentimental story to tell? If so, link up over at Sit Relax and Read! She will be doing this every Sunday!

This is a wonderful and sweet post.. Sewing also reminds me so much of my own mama. I think it’s why I enjoy it so much. I wish I would have kept the her machine she gave me, but I was too foolish to understand its value at the time. Thanks so much for sharing.

I, too, have an old Singer sewing machine handed down from my mother. I have toyed with the idea of one of these fabulous new multi-stitch machines from time to time….but, I don’t really do enough sewing to warrant spending the money. And, like you, I have so many fond memories of my mother making so many of my clothes on this one! I truly love the warmth and style of your sewing area….so charming and cozy!

Love that sewing machine. My mother always sewed, and I took on her love for my own as well. To me it’s like always having part of my mother with me.
Great post. =)

Of course you have me smiling and crying all at the same time, you get me and have since the begining. Thank you for alway supporting me, your friendship to me is very important and I am blessed to call you friend. I didn’t know I could love your sewing machine more but the handwritten directions just move my heart, they are a gift from your mother to you as much as the machine. I can’t wait to see you Friday and finally share real life with you.
Love you,
Cha Cha

What a great post. I love that sewing machine and the tags your mom taped on them. I don’t blame you for ever wanting to take them down. Priceless memories… I love it all! Can you come make my house look like yours?

Love that sewing machine. I currently still sew on my mom’s machine too, except it is not the one that I have the most memories off. She used to have a big singer before that. It was grey and so heavy, my father had to carry it to the table for her.
Great post! I cherish the everyday items that I still use and that used to be my mom’s too! They are so much more meaningful than any ‘official’ memorial object could be.
