We had the pleasure of visiting my parents & sister for the past few days. The act of traveling “home” is always comforting to me, it’s just getting there & preparing for it, that’s always hard.
But once I arrive, I always find that my 5 senses as in visual, taste, touch, hearing & smell bring more comfort than I could ever explain. Seeing my parents’ collections, going through my mom’s sewing goodies, touching my beloved Grandma’s jewelry box, being on my favorite back porch even in the dead of winter or sleeping on crisp ironed white sheets, it all completes & compliments the entire journey of going home.
I think on this trip more then ever, I realized that my home needs to be the complete package deal. As in, covering all the senses. Making each of the 5 senses a lasting memory for all who enter.

Awww, this is such a sentimental post to me. I live about 6 hours from all of our friends and family and haven’t been there in 6 months. We’re going in March for my Grandma’s 80th Birthday. I can’t wait to see my Mom 🙂 Thanks for this post!

I love this, you very sentimental girl. It is those things that make a lasting impression on us that make home so comfortable and inviting. This is the sweetest post I have read in some time. Thank you for pulling my heart strings sweet friend.
I am so glad you got to have a good visit with your family, I know how important down time can be. I hope you are relaxed, refreshed, and restored.
Tell everyone we say hi,

Now that is somebody who sews alot. I have like two bobbins and just replace the thread everytime I sew, but that is only about twice a year. I went home this past weekend too. Funny how we look at things differently as we get away and older.

Awww. Now I’m homesick. I live 1800 miles away from home and I haven’t been back in over a year. I love love the first picture and the one with the chairs on the porch. Looks heavenly. 🙂

Oh – it is magical how you learned this – and a testament to your heart and spirit that you did.
God bless you in your efforts to make your home a blessed nest. I don’t think it could have a better designer.
This made me smile 🙂
God be with you and yours today

Hooray! I’m finally going through my Blissdom cards (slowly but surely) and came across yours! I’m your newest subscriber and I’m already LOVING it here! 🙂
This post makes me think of the cottage that is in that movie with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz where they switch homes for Christmas. It seems to have so much texture and so many layers…I just love looking at it. It’s like every piece has its own story.

What a great post! That brought a nice reminder of my moms home and my grandmothers home (my mom probably has a lot of my grandmothers stuff) Thanks for an unexpected and delightful minute of reminiscing. 🙂
