As mentioned last week, here’s the play by play of how I re-worked the bird cage. It’s a little whimsy & a whole lotta Spring in my book.
When we bought our house, a lot of crap was left behind.
Literally.
So gross.
It was falling apart sitting up high on our porch. It’s not perfect by any means, but I figured it was worth a shot, because it was free. So I put on some rubber gloves & started cleaning.
After cleaning, I got my Drumel tool out & cut it in half.
The rest is quite simple.
I didn’t want to use nails, so super glue became my BFF for this project. I also super glued the wood finial in place. I wanted to use the primer/paint from Krylon. Just to make sure everything was covered properly & that there was no chance for any bird {ahem} poop smell or anything else that was gross & disgusting to come through.
I gave it 3 coats, fyi.
Supplies:
***the key supply in making this hang was the cup hooks.***
Some pretty fabric & my silhouette machine to cut a bird.
*Note, you would not need a silhouette machine to do this project.* Yes, it made it easier, but trust me you could easily trace a bird & cut it free handed. I’ve done it several times in making this bag.
I used thumbnails to attach my fabric to the wall & the cup hooks to hang the top of the birdcage to the wall. Underneath the birdcage I super glued part of the “L” bracket to the cage & screwed the other part into the wall for extra support.
And…
presto.
One adorable whimsy {basically} free birdcage for my wall.
Just for the fun of it…I included the before/after of the 2 frames I bought on Ebay last Fall for $5.52 for both + shipping.
The power of spray paint & some scrapbook paper. You can’t beat it.
I used my friend Shaundra’s tutorial for making the silhouettes on Picnik.com. It takes all of 2 minutes. So fast!
And here’s everything in it’s proper place. Proudly hanging.
Anyone else noticing the birdcage trend happening?

How funny is it that I asumed you got the cage from Micheal’s. That just goes to prove you really are the coolest most creative person I know. You don’t need Micheal’s. I love everything about this the colors the print on the fabric it just makes me giddy for Spring.
Hope you have a great day sweet friend.
