They call it the Nova Sure Procedure, but for me, it’s the freedom to wear white pants again – procedure.
I hesitated in writing this post, because, umm well it’s rather personal. But the thoughts of sharing this continued to enter my mind. I mean, I know 99.9% of my readers are female. Why can’t I talk about my struggle with heavy periods or periods that would last 10, 15 sometimes 20 days at a time? We as bloggers share our birth stories online, we write about breastfeeding, or how some have struggled with infertility. I thought why not share about this simple procedure called Nova Sure, so that others will know about it. They say this procedure has been around for years, but I didn’t know a thing about it until recently.
I’ve struggled with heavy heavy periods for quite some time. After I finished breastfeeding the twins, my periods were never the same, they became a major curse to my life. Let’s face it, it was sooooo very nice to not have my period while I was pregnant with the twins & while I breastfed them for 22 months. I mean that whole entire part of it, was WONDERFUL.
But after the breastfeeding, my periods of course, returned. Heavier than ever before. I’ll refrain from giving all the details, but the periods I was experiencing were life altering. Social changing. Activity changing. Mood changing. And zapped all the energy right from under me. I never knew they could fix this problem without having a complete hysterectomy. I always thought I would have to deal with it, until menopause.
I was so wrong.
A good friend of mine had the Nova Sure Procedure done a few months ago. This was the first I had heard about it. I just couldn’t believe what she was telling me.
“Really??? What? No, way! You mean to tell me that they can get rid of whatever causes you to have your period in 5 minutes? In the doctors office? Really?”
She said it really was nothing. It was done in like a few minutes & the only thing you experience is major cramping the day before the procedure & the day or two after. But it was worth it! It seemed to good to be true.
But sure enough, I’m here to tell you ~ IT”S TRUE. I had the procedure done about 2 weeks ago. I already feel different. My mood is different, my outlook is different. It is amazing. Their claim is that for some women, you may still have some spotting, but nothing like a full period. For others you will have nothing. It’s done, it’s over with. Obviously, you can click on the website or ask your gyno & they can give you info. But I can’t tell you the difference already. I am no doctor, not even close to a nurse. But I know I should have had this done a long time ago. I think we as moms, put ourselves last for everything. “I’ll do it when the kids are a little older” or “There’s no time, I’ll wait until we can do it.” Let me tell you, if you are suffering from heavy periods, and are done having kids – do it! Life is too short. Don’t allow your periods to control your life.
It’s freedom, it’s opening up doors again to real social life, your moods will be different, your outlook on life will be different. It’s amazing the freedom I already feel from it. Remember, I am not a professional. I’m just a mom, who is kicking herself in the rear for not having it done sooner! I’m the mom who is now wearing the white pants or the white shorts (even though my rear is really too big to be wearing white) – I don’t care. I feel like we can go, be, do whatever we want. I’m not holding us back now. Looking back, it’s hard to realize how much it really did hold me back on doing a lot of things. I never really realized until recently how much it did. Life is too short to limit yourself and your whole entire family. Yes, the procedure was for me, but I realize it was also for my family. They are the ones who have to live with me & deal with me. So it’s freedom for all of us, with no restrictions.
If you have questions here’s the website. This is not a sponsored post or anything. This is just me, excited about a new outlook on life for me & my family. If you are even thinking about it, check into it. You’ll be amazed just how good you’ll feel shortly after it’s all done. I really feel like I can do almost anything now. It’s the best feeling – ever!
THANK YOU!

Wow, I’m so happy that you did that and how great you feel! It’s so hard as moms to take the time to do things for ourselves.

So awesome that you took the time to do something for yourself! Glad to hear you are feeling better! For women who aren’t all together sure they are done with babies they can look into Mirena which is an IUD also used to help with heavy cycles. It has done wonders for me!

I know what you were going through, although I endured it way longer. Shopping was horrible!!!! I can remember having to buy new clothes, omg, embarrassing. I was in my 50’s when I finally convinced my doctor to do a hysterectomy and it was life changing. Enjoy your new life, it will be as amazing as mine is, I’m sure.

I appreciate your honesty on this topic so much! Like you, being pregnant was wonderful because I was period-free! I have been contemplating this for a few years now (trying to make sure I’m done having babies) and think it’s probably my next step! And yippee for white pants! Glad you’re feeling better! 🙂

I’m glad you are feeling better. I had a similar issue and had an ablasion. But my problem ended up being I had cervical cancer and not just a heavy period. Hope this solves it for you 🙂

I just wanted to share that I had one done 3 weeks ago and I’m finally feeling better. I went in thinking that everyone does well and it turns out that I was in the 25% that didn’t recover quickly. I will say though, that three weeks of feeling blah should give me 5 years of no more problems. My doctor said they can pretty much guarantee 5 years. It also doesn’t work on 20% of people. It was my husband who finally convinced me to get it done – by his math I was only having 2 good weeks out of every month. I hope you are feeling great! Good job for taking care of YOUR needs!

I’m so happy you are feeling better! I don’t think people realize how debilitating a menstrual cycle can really be.
I have always had long, heavy periods (4 super tampons an hour), even while on the pill. I had a gynecologist (a female) who told me some women are just like that. For almost 2 years straight, I bled 3 out of 4 weeks of the month. It was awful.
I found a new gynecologist (a male) who told me that it isn’t normal and I didn’t have to live like that. We tried different combinations of hormones and I wasn’t having good results. He told me that he had another patient with issues similar to mine and he did a D&C on her and it took care of it. He considered it a last resort and it was my choice if I wanted to consider it. I did! I had the D&C and everything changed for me!
He said some parts of my uterus were really thick while others were really thin. He said because of the differences in thickness it was as if all the places on my uterus were having their own periods which was causing me to bleed all month long.
I did this D&C at age 27. I wasn’t married and had never been pregnant. I have since married and have a child. It didn’t affect fertility at all. I still continue to have normal periods…they last 3 days max!
I did have a lot of pain after having my son and I ended up having a laparoscopy and found out I have severe Endometriosis. My left ovary was fused to my abdominal wall and my uterus and bladder are fused together. He removed as many adhesions as possible. I’ve been told I can have one more pregnancy and then it is hysterectomy for me.
So my little PSA is to make sure you don’t have something like Endo causing problems for you. Also, you DO NOT have to deal with female discomfort!! There are physical therapists that deal with nothing but vaginal issues in women! TALK to your doctor, don’t continue to have heavy periods, painful intercourse, bladder leakage, etc.

Yeah for you! Here in east Canada you have to go into day surgery at the Hospital, but I was home after a couple of hours. I do have my periods again, but not as bad as before the procedure. My gynecologist offered me IUD as an option, but Novasure is not invasive, so I went for that. My 22 year old has the same issues, but she wants kids later on, so it’s not an option for her now.

I’m so glad you were brave enough to share this, Kellie. I just forwarded it to my sisters who both have struggled with the same thing for some time.
Thank you. <3

Oh my goodness — this is amazing. I am so glad you are doing better!! I suffer from the same thing and it is so hard!! I have 1-2 days a month that I cannot go anywhere. I go through a Ultra tampon plus a pad every hour all day long and still have to change pants 2-3 times a day. You are so wonderful to talk about this – I am sure there are so many women who are suffering too. I am going to look into doing this. Love you!!!!

I am almost 48 and my periods are changing as I head towards menopause. First they were going from a typical 5 day period (2 heavier then tapering for the last 3) down to a 3 day period. Now they are heading the other way, lasting 7 days and at least two so heavy that I have to change clothes several times a day and sleep on towels so I don’t ruin our sheets. It’s insane. Thanks for sharing. I am going to do some research so I can ask my gyn lots of questions at my next appointment. So glad you are feeling better!

my last period was 6 months long and ended with a dnc, one before that was 9 months long. blog exetemely heavy. i think anymore description than that would be a bit much. with that in mind, i truly understand why white bottoms of any kind should be praised. enjoy it and even if some thing happens, you could alwaus dye them. thats what i plan on doing with 3 brand new awesome fitting pairs that just had a bad moment. seriously take a minute to rock the heck out of the jeans just because you can. 🙂

I had this done 2 and 1/2 years ago and it was the BEST thing I ever did! It’s sounds like we had similar stories..it was awful! Now I just pray my daughters don’t have to deal with it as bad as I did.
