Last week I sent out the above picture via my Instagram stream. This picture basically illustrates how we spend our evenings. After dinner & baths I’m trying (trying being the key word) to establish a routine for many more school years to come. We are hitting the flash cards hard with sight words, math & nature. We have a list of 50 words to be memorized by December along with various other things & we’re trying our best to make that happen.
A few weeks back I received the new Fellowes Saturn2 Thermal & Cold Laminator for a review. In my mind, I was thinking, gosh yes – I could totally use this for a ton of things around the house. I also started thinking of laminating the kids’ art projects & pictures. Because they wont stay fresh forever. But it became pretty clear, after just a couple of weeks of school that I needed to laminate our flash cards.
We use them basically every night. So it was a no brainer to test this laminator out on thick flash cards. After a few minutes of allowing the Fellowes Saturn2 to heat up, it will do magical things, I tell you.
Everything came out crystal clear. No bubbles. Another test came when I got my scrapbook paper cutter out to see if it would cut apart the laminated cards.
It cut like butter.
Out of curiosity I grabbed one of Graham’s fingerpaintings from last December to see how it would do. It truly is amazing! For keepsake value or even for scrapbooking. There’s endless possibilities. Fellowes even has a Idea Center that has many suggestions for uses around the home. They have down loadable templates of sight words, math cards, the alphabet, maps, telling time – you name it. All at your finger tips!
So here we are, another night of homework, new words, a fresh new look to our flash cards & the entire time I’m thinking of what else I can laminate! It’s so fun to use but so practical as well!

Wow! I would love to have my own laminator. It would come in handy with those sight words (we’re working on them too!).

Oh my – I’d love my own personal laminator, every teacher’s dream. I do use packing tape a lot – I call it the “Poor Man’s Laminator” Works on small things!

I totally need one too. I was just saying that I needed one the other day when Jack came home with site word cards. It would have been great last year with Porter and his words and Jack and all the alphabet practicing! I’ll have to look into it.
