Have I ever mentioned that my daughter can smell a piece of sourpatch candy from a mile away? She absolutely LOVES sour candy. My husband calls both she & I hound dogs, because we can smell anything. Well, for the twins birthday I knew it had to involve something sour & sweet. (Because those two words fit her to a “T”) So I thought I would try making a sourpatch stick for her birthday, and since I tend to call her my pixie…the name Sourpatch Pixie Stick kinda stuck for the description.
They were extremely simple to make. All I did was order a box of sourpatch (Airhead Extreme Belts) which was the perfect amount to have for party favors. Skewer sticks, paper straws, hot glue (to glue the skewer stick to the inside of the straw), orange gummy fruit & scissors to cut the Airhead belts in half.
All you do is cut the belts in half with scissors & loop the ends together & stick them through the skewer stick. Once you have completed the loops, add drops of hot glue to the skewer stick & quickly slide the paper straw over the skewer stick. I used one pack of Airhead Extreme Belts for each favor & there’s 18 packs to a box. Wrap in treat bags & tie with baker’s twine & you have yourself a fun sourpatch candy favor!
Why on earth kids love all this sour candy is beyond me. The candy makes me cross my eyes & squeal just a little with the first taste of sour that runs on my mouth. But I must say, I love to hear my kids giggle when I do take a bite of some sour candy, because I’m known to be a little over dramatic when I do have a piece. 😉
