I have the good folks of Spectracide to thank for sponsoring this post & helping me get rid of my weeds & unwanted grass.
As I have mentioned in my post a week or so ago I”ve been planning and working on our home’s curb appeal. I also shared our BIG news 2 days ago that we are in the process of buying a new home, so our current home’s curb appeal is more important than ever to help but it on the market & get it sold!
I first started with the basic things to do. Throw out grass seed in our yard, and used Spectracide Weed and Grass Killer to get rid of all my weeds & grass.
Now that I have done that, and my weeds have dried up, I pulled them out of my flower beds and walkway and have started with phase 2 of our curb appeal. Which reminds me to mention that Sprectracide is offering coupons on their FB page for their weed & grass killer. Even though this is a sponsored post, and they are paying me to share their product, I can honestly say their product AND packaging are amazing! So click over to get your coupon on their Facebook page.
Now let’s talk about the fun stuff! Planting colorful flowers!!!
The power of color is to everyone’s benefit no matter what color of house you live in. You can always work with coordinating colors from your home’s exterior. I ALWAYS seek out new ideas or color inspiration when I’m driving around town trying to think of new color combinations for my flowers to contrast nicely with the exterior of our home.
I have just 2 rules, I personally go by when planting flowers & colors.
*Typically no color is off limits as long as it will coordinate with the exterior of our home. (I happen to currently have a white house with grey shake & trim) so basically I could use any color.
*When I use various shapes & sizes of flower pots or planters I want them all to be THE SAME color of pot. It doesn’t matter that I have different sizes, I just want them all the same color. I personally like black flower pots because when you use a dark flower pot or planter you are allowing your flowers to actually shine & POP more. This could also be the same case for a white flower pot. Allow your flowers to do their thing & POP against a dark/white pot. To me, it’s such a classic look and you can’t go wrong.
Also, if you are anything like me ~ you’ve collected various flower pots throughout the years, right??? Well, I just spray paint all of mine so that they’re the same color.
Hanging plants or a cluster of container pots are always huge statement pieces. You can never go wrong!
I like to have a colorful entrance! Even if you can’t afford a lot of flowers, or are like me trying to be smart with my curb appeal since we are trying to sell – make a colorful statement at your front door!
Another factor in creating curb appeal is mixing Perennials with Annuals. I love the combination and POWER of both and what it can do for your curb appeal.
After I used the Sprectracide to get rid of my weeds in my flower beds, we added mulch. For the record, I love mulch! It makes me happy because there is nothing like a weed-free flower bed filled with fresh mulch to get my creative juices flowing to plant some flowers. In the flower beds close to the house, I have greenery, Perennials (Peonies) and I typically plant Geraniums and Vinca Flowers for their colorful choices and hardiness through the hot Summer months.
