I have Spectracide to thank for sponsoring this post, and for helping me achieve weedless flower beds!
I’ve been discussing in previous posts, how I plan on creating curb appeal for our home that will soon be on the market. For the record, we have loved our little home with all our hearts, still do for that matter. So when someone suggested taking “shortcuts” or just doing what was necessary to get our house on the market, it was almost offending to us. We have always had the mindset of doing things right, or fixing the problems before we move on to the next in every room of our home (and yard for that matter.)
Do we want a quick sale? You betcha!
Do we want to get the most money $$$ out of our 9 year investment? Absolutely!
But we also have the very REAL realization that we are going into a new (foreclosed) home that will need a lot of attention & projects that will take money to get it in a livable condition.
So…with all that said, I decided to focus on the “bones” of our yard (like you would a house) and to work on the things that will last. Like making our grass as green as can be, fighting weeds with Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer, spraying for ants using Spectracide Ant Shield, and of course purchasing flowers & plants while being the most frugal I can possibly be.
Which let me tell you…the words frugal and flowers don’t belong in the same sentence, in my opinion.
If there’s one place I can spend some money (without fail) it’s a flower nursery. It’s my weakness.
Sure flowers & pops of color matter when adding layers to your curb appeal, but I know people want to see GREEN as well. Or I should say at least they do here in the South! Trying to get our lawn in tip top shape, I feel will be pay off in the long run. People want to see that you’ve cared for the lawn. They also want to see pops of color.
Which I totally get!
After using Spectracide Weed & Grass killer, I purchased “basic” flowers that would hopefully hold up with our hot & humid Southern days. Another important factor is that they would be low maintenance. Because who has time to always stopped and water the flowers when you’re moving?
So I purchased Vinca flowers for filler, and because they are very heat tolerate & used Geraniums because of their powerful bloom factor and easy care. I also made sure to fertilize the ground as well. If you haven’t read my post about Cow Manure ~ seriously you need to read it!!!
It has a crap load of info. haha! I crack myself up.
And when it’s all said & done…
You have an “exhale moment” or two…and you can check things off your list, and most importantly enjoy your pretty weedless green grass, and blooming flower beds.
