Y’all. I was so excited when this idea popped up in my head.
I mean, what little girl wouldn’t want a Fairy Wand for a Valentine’s Day card exchange?
I had a little girl who’s eyes were as big as quarters when I showed her my vision, and then of course the end result.
“Mama, all my friends in school are going to LOVE these!”
Which of course made me happy. So here’s the scoop on how we made {and assembled} these DIY Fairy Wands.
I gathered all my scrap ribbon. Which, of course I have a lot because I’m a hoarder.
The only thing I just HAD to purchase was the little white & pink arrow ribbon.
You know…it’s all about the details.
Here’s the actual list of supplies we used:
Cardstock (about 4 sheets)
Glitter cardstock (about 2 sheets)
3-4 different kinds of scrap ribbon
Paper Straws
Vinyl (for the wording)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
Silhouette Machine
Accuquilt machine
or use this free heart template as your cutting pattern
And as you know, for a font junkie like me, that’s something that makes my heart beat just a little faster. 😉
*However, if you don’t have a Silhouette machine, you can always just pick up some Valentine stickers at your local craft store or purchase Love Stickers like these.
Or you can use this free heart template as a pattern to cut your own hearts out by hand.
We just tied the ribbons in knots and used about 3 ribbon strands per fairy wand.
Some we layered with glitter paper and some with wording. There was no reasoning, that’s just what my little girl wanted to do.
Truly everything was purchased on sale. That’s the only way I purchase my craft supplies. Most of the supplies I already had because I do tend to (ahem…) stock up on craft supplies. The paper straws were on Halloween clearance (you know think black & orange for Halloween) but I love black year round, and of course Orange straws are perfect since I’m a Tennessee VOLS fan. 😉
If you do these, it’s best to do them like in an assembly line. It’s also a great craft project to do with your own little fairy so she can give them to her fairy friends.
