If you have a boy or a girl who is school-aged, they probably have a collection or 2 in their rooms.
Or 3…or 4.
Well, it just so happens that my boys (ages 7 & 9) share a room. We have a vast amount of collections. Like a whole lot.
Nothing goes together.
Nothing rhymes.
Nothing coordinates.
But its all that “stuff” that they like and love.
So here are some ideas on our shared boys’ room, plus some really fun products I was able to select from Shutterfly to help give both of the boys some definition space and give some personal touches to their room as well.
The challenge of any kids’ room is to gather the collections and either group them together in a display, store them together in a cubby, shelf or drawer. Thankfully since we moved in our #newoldmtnhome, I was able to really sort out the stuff my kids didn’t use as much, and donate most of those toys and/or collections.
My challenge, you ask???
To manage all the toys & paperwork that will be coming in when school begins.
Fingers crossed for all of us Moms!
In addition to trying to organize the boys’ room, I also knew I needed to personalize their space. I couldn’t believe all the fun things Shutterfly is now offering to personalize any room and even an outdoor space! I decided to try their outdoor pillows for the boys and get their names put on them. Knowing that it’s outdoor fabric makes me feel even better about placing it in the boys’ room. (Plus, the green heart matched our green chubby boxes that we already had perfectly!)
I also loved Shutterfly’s personalized fleece blankets! The small size is perfect for their twin beds, and they’re always wanting a throw blanket in the Fall and Winter. I love that they were able to monogram the blankets within a week, and ship them out quickly.
One of the many things I fell in love with when we purchased our #newoldmtnhome is that each closet has top to bottom shelving. Even the smallest closets have shelves. So that, too, really has helped with organization. Knowing what I know now as a mom of 3, I would always opt to pay more for something that will help you remain organized. So cubby shelves and canvas storage boxes are probably my all-time favorite when trying to stay organized.
Obviously, their tastes will change, but they always love to see their collections on display, or their pictures! So I had all my IG pictures from our summer made into a 16×20 metal picture collage. It’s so fun, and I also ordered everything from my phone! Even the pillows and blankets. Shutterfly’s app is very mobile friendly and you can upload pictures from your phone.
I also really liked this acrylic serving tray! It’s almost like a frame, but you can upload any picture or even your favorite quote! These would make great Christmas gifts as well.
Here’s another thing my boys use all the time. I found this letterpress tray at a yard sale, but it’s perfect for little characters they play with often.
I love that their room is organized and personalized! Don’t get me wrong, in those storage boxes there’s all sorts of toys filled to the brim. But they know what goes where, and it can be cleaned up in a hurry! The other fun part is that each of them has their own space, defined by a monogram or their names. And if you know me at all, well then you know I love a good monogram. 😉
