It’s one of my most favorite combos in the history of ever.
Each year I like to switch it up or turn it up a notch.
You know, like a little Black Dress. It’s a classic, but sometimes you want one with lace or with sparkle.
Are you understanding what I mean?
Well, here’s this year’s version of my most favorite combo in the history of ever.
Chocolate Peppermint Trifle but in a {big} jar.
It’s just pretty to look at isn’t it?
It’s like a little black dress but with lace AND sparkles altogether, don’t you think?
But you know what?
I’m pretty serious when it comes to my food. So I don’t joke around for longer than a minute or two. It tastes really good too.
You can make it with your favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe, but I’m going to be honest here.
I didn’t.
I used a cake mix from a box.
And the chocolate syrup drizzled in the layers? Store bought.
Let’s face it. I have 3 days before my kids get out of school & a house to clean & presents to wrap.
This Mama needs to take shortcuts once in awhile.
Ingredients
- 1 box of chocolate cake (baked according to the instructions on the back of the box)
- 1 can of sweet condensed milk
- 1 large (16oz) tub of whipped cream topping
- Hershey's Chocolate Syrup
- about 5-6(?) candy canes crushed
Instructions
- After you have baked your cake and allowed it to cool, cut your cake in small (brownie) size squares.
- In a large bowl, gently fold together your whipped cream and your can of sweetened condensed milk.
- Using a large jar (think canister size) start your layer process.
- Layer in your cake squares, whipped topping mixture, drizzle the chocolate syrup and add a layer of your crushed peppermints.
- Repeat until you're at the top.
- Store in refridgerator.
But the beauty of this cake, is that no one will ever know it took about 10 minutes total of prep time – outside of the baking process.
In my Mom book of plays & tricks, that’s a big win!
Of course, you can add more or less candy canes – whatever your family likes.
People often add Peppermint extract to their whipped cream, but my family prefers just the candy canes for the taste of peppermint. Basically they like a whole lotta chocolate with peppermint on the side. 😉
I promise you can’t mess it up. It will come out perfect every time you make it.
It’s great to take to a party, family gathering or church potluck.
Everyone will ask for your recipe.
It can just be our secret that it only took you 10 minutes to put together.
Of course, I had to eat this bowl – while I was all by myself. You know for the blog sake. 😉
It’s heaven in a bowl.
Oreo Cheesecake Cookies! So moist and so amazingly good.
Last year’s version of my favorite combo ~ that’s a piece of heaven as well.
