Who says Citrus decor is just for the Summer?
Sure, this Summer was definitely the Summer of the Pineapple, but oranges really are at their best during the Winter months, if you ask me.
Well, don’t ask me…ask Southern Living Magazine December edition.
Ohmygoodness….
Y’all the December issue is so dreamy and has so many good things in it. Recipes, decor, Southern traditions, and they have a section of decorating with fruit. So my wreath was 100% inspired by their December magazine. Because I knew I needed some sort of citrus garland or wreath to go with my citrusy corner of our kitchen/family room combo.
So here’s my take on it and How to Make a Citrus Wreath from a $6.99 Home Depot fresh wreath.
The beauty of this wreath, is that anyone can do it. I used my hot glue gun for most of it, but I also used toothpicks to help attached the oranges.
I also used clippings from our Magnolia Tree and Cypress tree to help add dimension and more texture to the body of the wreath. Because lets face it…Magnolia leaves go with anything, right?
And how Southern would I be if I didn’t add some Magnolia leaves to my home’s decor???
Plus a little ribbon to tie a bow…of course.
As I mentioned above & shared on my Instagram, my wreath base was $6.99 at Home Depot. I honestly LOVE Home Depot’s BF sales. They always have their fresh Christmas garlands, wreaths and Poinsettias on a great deal over Black Friday weekend. (this is not a sponsored post, just sharing one of my favorite places on BF) Then I put my rain boots on & went outside and gathered some clippings from our yard to add to the wreath.
I used my trusty hot glue gun to help secure everything I attached to my wreath. The back of the Magnolia leaves, Cypress, pinecones and even my Cutie Oranges all got hot glue.
However, I did use 2 toothpicks per orange to help secure the oranges in place. Their shape just required a little bit more strength.
Because you know, they’re round…
I’m round…
Sometimes, I require a little bit more attention than others as well. 😉
In-between the toothpicks and all around it is where you’ll want to add the hot glue.
At the last minute, I remembered I had this orangeish ~ gold ribbon that I had leftover from Thanksgiving and I truly think it was like the icing on the cake. It put it all together.
You can see how this little corner of our kitchen and family room usually looks here.
I love the texture & feel these prints from Minted add to this room. And of course the frames.
pineapple print
tangerine print
I love that both prints have some white spaces in them, and of course pops of color. It allows a the prints to breathe. Does that even make sense?
Even the large pinecones in the bowl kinda, sorta, maybe look like a base of a pineapple.
So if you ask me, it all looks Christmasy to me!
Citrus, is the new black, uh…red for Christmas. 😉
