As an older (ahem…) Mom with 3 school aged elementary kids I am sharing my ideas on What to wear to Disney. I will try to control my deep, dying, everlasting love for all things Disney to a minimum, because I would probably scare you all just a tad bit.
So you’re going on a trip to Disneyland or Disney World??? Oh, I hope you have a fantastic time! We can either discuss Disneyland or Disney World because I’ve been to both many times, and for every single visit we have made as a family of 5, my stomach gets all those butterflies in it, because I love it so much, and I love to plan for it as well. You are already doing great, because you’re trying to plan ahead! And trust me, I think that’s one of the keys to having a great time at Disney.
First & foremost be comfortable!
I honestly plan almost every outfit around my sneakers! Because your feet need to be the #1 priority when it comes to Disney! But you can also be cute while wearing your favorite pair of sneakers or tennis shoes.
The other major obstacle in planning for your trip to Disney is of course, the weather!
You cannot predict the weather, and honestly you will not know up until a week or 2 what it’s really going to be like. While you’re in the planning stages (and still don’t know exactly what the weather will be) just plan in layers.

Let’s me stop right here & chime in for a minute. If you are only planning on using your phone to take pictures, you will not need to carry a medium size cross over purse, or maybe you are thinking about buying the PhotoPass service at Disney – either way carry the smallest bag you can get away with! However, I sometimes like to take my DSLR camera, and I carefully shopped for a “cute” cross over purse that would fit my big camera + 1 extra lens. The striped purse from Target was a perfect choice. I cannot tell you how much I love this bag. It has 2 side zip pockets – which were big enough for my phone, coin purse & lipstick. So basically I just used the main part of the purse for my DSLR camera. It was perfect.
Even if you do bring a regular camera + your phone, I highly recommend that you also bring along a portable fast charging phone charger.
Without fail, my phone would die right before the fireworks and you do not want that to happen (and that’s with limited use) so I would pull out my portable charger & be good to go. Note: there are phone charging stations around the parks to charge your phones, but honestly who wants to do that & waste precious time?

9 out of 10 times times you’ll regret wearing a lighter color bottom, whether its shorts, skorts or white jeans. Not only for the wet rides, but also many times people are having to stand on a seat in order to get into a row and sit down for a ride. For example, the Rock-n-Roller coaster at Hollywood Studios, you almost have to stand on the seat in order to get in and sit down. Same with the Pirates of the Caribbean or It’s a Small World ride. So if you are going to wear a lighter color bottom, consider yourself warned. This outfit below is great to wear on your arrival or departure day. Or pair it with a solid jean skirt or skort & you’re good to go to the parks.

The other huge tip I will share is that as women (or even men) we need to avoid the chafing as much as possible. I mean, let’s be real – chafing happens!!!
I fell in love with these Jockey Skimmies to wear underneath my knit skirts or even my skorts. They are NOT Spanxs. Trust me, I would never tell you to wear Spanxs at Disney. 😉 But these Skimmies helped me avoid chafing, but also gave me more confidence to wear my knit skirts around Disney. Think of them more like a slip. I promise you’ll love them, they’re so soft!
Can you believe my husband always reminds me to buy & bring plenty of shoes to Disney???
I promise he does & he’s right!!!
But bring the right kind of shoes! Whatever you are most comfortable wearing – bring 2 of them + a completely different shoe to wear around your hotel for breakfast or at night. His big thing is, if your shoes get wet on a ride or if it rains(!!!) you’ll need an extra pair of shoes that are just as comfortable for yourself + the kids! In Florida the humidity can get out of control. Sometimes your shoes will not dry. So have an extra pair. I always stock up on my favorite flops when they go on clearance & store them in the back of our closet until our trip.
I’m one of those weird people that can wear flops all day long, even to Disney. But when you are staying at Disney for a few days, do your feet a favor & change your shoes around to sneakers or TOMS once in awhile as well.
I could speak about so many things, and there are a lot of posts out there that will help you plan on what to do, where to eat, Disneyland at Christmas etc. But for me, you have to plan early and in layers when it comes to clothes and of course taking advantage of saving money when you can & hitting the sales! Wearing bright colors, reds, stripes or polka dots are always a win at Disney! We typically visit Disney in the Winter months now, and the week we go the weather is always different from day to day. You can never go wrong wearing leggings, a Disney t-shirt & something to tie around your waist in case it gets cold later in the day. We have also been to Disneyland in the Summer, but the nights have gotten so cool we all needed a sweater or a sweatshirt. So always think in layers when you go or when you are packing!
An all-inclusive family resort ~ also in Florida!
We loved vacationing at this all-inclusive family resort. Great time & great memories!
