For as long as I can remember it’s been the most exciting 2 minutes of sports there ever was. I grew up watching the Kentucky Derby and still to this day, it is so exciting to me. I loved watching the Kentucky Derby for many reasons, but one of the most fun parts is seeing all the fashion, big hats and all things pastel in color. I loved seeing both the women and the men dress up and get ready to cheer for their favorite horse at the race all while wearing beautiful Kentucky Derby fashion.
Living in the South, it seems that many people have gone to the Kentucky Derby, or have been invited to a Kentucky Derby viewing party. If you’ve never been to one, it really is a fun and simple party to throw together. Invite your friends, tell them to dress up, and offer hors d’oeuvres, signature horseshoe cookies, drinks or treats. You could even ask your friends to bring an item, but for the most part it’s the Kentucky Derby fashion that makes your party so fun!
So what should you wear and how can you style it to be in Kentucky Derby Fashion???
First, whether you’re male or female you should plan on wearing the ultimate Derby accessory. Which of course is a hat! I love this classic Bow Race Day Hat.
The magical part about wearing a hat to the Derby or a viewing party is that you can wear it “as is” or decorate it up even more with ribbons, fresh flowers or find a fake horseshoe and hot glue it on for luck.
Next, up is your outfit! You see, typically people get the hat first, and then find the coordinating attire. Whatever you wear, make it fun and colorful. For some, it can be wearing a white sundress and accessorizing it with color like this lightweight wrap or a fresh floral corsage.
1. Dress 2. Derby Clutch 3. Derby Icon Scarf
And for the guys, it’s the very same! Think Seersucker or pastel. Oh how I love a man in Seersucker. Seersucker represents “old charm” to me or it’s even perfect to wear out to dinner, on a vacation or to church. If you want to dress up even more, pair a jacket and tie together for a dressier look. vineyard vines has the best pastel bow ties that would be perfect for a Derby viewing party.
In the past, when friends have gone to the Kentucky Derby they dress up but comfort is very important because you never know how the weather is going to be — same with a viewing party. You want to look Derby-savvy but you also want comfort, and something you can wear again. A free download invitation can set the stage of exactly how you want your party to be.
With the excitement of race day, wearing something Derby-savvy from vineyard vines, and having your party all set can set the stage for the “Mane Event” all you’ll have to do is just enjoy the day with your friends and family!
Most importantly have fun, take pictures, get your friends involved with the actual party set up.
Make it a party to remember with fun free photo and decor props, classic style and great food!
